when I first found out that everyone was going to have to participate in a tech free challenge I didn't know if this was going to be a good thing. I was kind of scared because I didn't know what to expect. But once we talked about the project and I found out there was different levels I thought this was going to be pretty cool. I chose level three. This meant that I had to give up computers, portable electronics, Cd's, video cassettes, DVDs, no console games and no microwaves. I had to go without theses things for a whole 24 hours. I thought this was a good level to try because it would help me realize how much technology was really needed in order to live comfortably. I didn't think this challenge was going to be very hard because I thought I would be able to find enough things to entertain me thought out the days so that I wouldn't be bored. Well, I was wrong. I woke up on Sunday and I just knew that this was going to be a long day. The first thing I wanted to do when I woke up was check my cell phone to see what time it was and to see if anyone text me. But then I remembered I was doing this challenge and I couldn't use my phone at all that day. That killed me. It was extremely hard not to just pick up my phone and text or call someone up. So instead of being tempted to use my phone, I decided to go make myself busy. I sat around for most of the morning folding laundry. It wasn't a very fun morning. When the afternoon came around, I had nothing to do so I decided to read a book. After a while I got bored of reading so I just sat around being bored until dinner. After dinner I went down to my room and just hung out for a while. When I decided to get ready for bed I really wanted to watch television. I almost gave up on the whole tech free challenge so that I could watch a little television before I went to bed, but I didn't. I decided to try to fall asleep and eventually it worked. I thought the tech free challenge was very different than what I thought it was going to be. I didn't realize how bored I was going to be. A few things I learned from the challenge was that if I were to do this again I would make sure I had friends to keep me company. I would also probably go camping in the woods or something because then I would be able to do a higher level and I wouldn't be tempted to use technology. Before I did this challenge I wish I had known that its a million times harder to do it alone. If I had to do this challenge for a longer period of time, I would start with a lower level because its harder to learn to live without a lot of things than only a few things. In the end, I learned that living with out technology sucks but living with out it for a day or so is a good way to make you realize how much power technology has in your life. Overall I thought this was a pretty cool assignment and I wouldn't mind doing it again someday.
